As we now the play
takes place in the period of renesance. During this enesance period were found
new things... for example antropocentrism which contain to put stress on human as a person and the life. Individualism is
another one and is about making person more complicated. The main thing is the
comeback to the nature which was inspired by Antique. Second one is using problems
from everyday life. All of those we can find in this play. For example both of
the story is in the forest
and there are magical things like nymphs atc. Soo this is a
example of using nature elements. The plot is about love, and this belong to
the everyday life in my opinion. And the character Theseus is good example of
individualism because he want to solve the problems by different way. So he has
think about himself and make desicions to be like this.
So in general A Midsummer Night Dream is a typical play
belongs to Renesance period.
Ok lets put a question .... Can this story by relate to
todays world ?? can be relevant ???
From one side it is impossible to associate this play with
todays world, maybe with children world. But personally I do not know person
that saw a nymphs or elphs in last few weeks. Also I cant imagine that can take plays in
forest.... I do not know any forest like this in real life ( yes we have but
they are demage or destroy but people that want money and money and nothing else) and I
cant imagine in this period to stay in forest during night ... I will be really
scared that someone can stole me or hunt me :) ... ok I know i have big imagination...lets
go back to plot....So we can not put it into real life because of this
mysterious things.
As I sad the Renesance is about individualism and put stress
on individual thinking ( for example when Hermie decided to leave with
Lysander). And in our quick period is this very important .... we do not have enought
time for everything we should be ready in few moments and withnout individual
thinking that was found many years ago we will be lost in our time.people are different,
good, better, bad... this will be same in every age. Another thing is the love plot ... problems with love has
averyone who I know but as I sa before we do not have time to deal with it like
in Shakespeare book.
Soo from one view it can not be relevant but when we look at
it detaily we can find many things. It is only about the person that it is
reading. Everything is about the person.
Could it be that the world of nymphs represents the unrestrained -- or, in the terms of modern psychology, unrepressed -- half of our personalities, the world where are desires have freedom?
